News: Upcoming changes

Posted by Jenna on October 30, 2009

I wanted to post some upcoming changes with Stardust.

  • Site changes-new pigment categories so you can shop by finish as well as color
  • Discontinued products-I am working on generation 2 of foundations and concealers.  I will be discontinuing the concealer and correctors to make way for a new formula.  Foundations will follow to prepare for G2 of Stardust Foundations.
  • Holiday giveaway.  I’ll be giving away a complete full-sized Holiday Collection.  Stay tuned to enter.
  • I am considering starting a forum.  My concern is having enough activity to keep it going because I am a very new company.  I’ll be putting up a poll on this to gauge if there will be enough interest to support this yet.
  • The Holiday Collection will be up soon!

Thank you and I hope you all have a safe, spooky, and FUN Halloween weekend!

Holiday Collection Preview

Posted by Jenna on October 29, 2009

Here are some swatches of the upcoming Holiday Collection.  The inspiration for this was lush velvet and the twinkling of crystal found in snow and icicles.  I was inspired to create eyeshadows with rich velvety textures or crystalized shimmer.  And of course, the holidays aren’t complete with plenty of bling, so I made some super shimmery liners and shimmer powders for body and face.

Here are 9 of the 14 LE colors that I hope to release at the beginning of the month.  As well as the 3 liner powders and shimmer powders.

Holiday091

1. Arctic Whisper:  Pale pastel pink with icy blue sheen and delicate shimmers (this shade was inspired by a customer who loves faeries, Lisa at Sparkle is my Crack).

2. Northern Dream:  Deep smoky blue crystalized with prismatic sparkle. (this makes an O-M-G killer smoky eye)

3.  Dream Cloak:  Muted plummy purple laced with copper sheen.

4.  Cashmere Mittens:  Luxe ivory heated with copper pearl.

5.  Candlelit Kisses:  Warm cranberry metallic, velvety texture.

6.  Crystals and Velvet:  Vibrant purple with glittering blue.

7.  Holiday Delight:  Complex metallic purple-taupe.

8.  Ribbons and Bows:  Heirloom golden metallic

9.  Hearthstone:  Velvety charcoal infused with copper shimmer (one of my favorites).

Three shimmery creations:

Holiday092

1.  Shimmerstorm Body Dust:  An intense storm of silver mineral glitter goodness.

2.  Winter’s Kiss:  Cheek/Face shimmer that is a sheer nude pink with a subtle icy blue glimmer.

3.  Melt the Snow:  Cheek/Face shimmer that is a sheer sexy pale pink with golden shimmer and shine.

And the 3 super sparkly liners:

Holiday093

Swatched wet with mixing solution, then gently buffed to bring out the glimmers:

Holiday094

(listed from left to right on swatched bottom picture)

1.  Midnight Velvet:  Deepest black with intense purple shimmer.

2.  Midnight Candle:  Deepest black with golden bronze shimmer.

3.  Midnight Blizzard:  Deepest black with crystal and silver shimmer.

There are 5 more eyeshadows that are more on the golden or neutral side, all of them are stunning.

I am having a giveaway for the holidays as well. =)

Thanks for reading, and I hope you all have a great weekend.

The Mineral Makeup Mutiny Crusade

Posted by Jenna on October 28, 2009

I thought I’d post my opinion on this.  I’ve been watching this unfold for some time now.  Please note that this post is my personal opinion and is not the opinion or stance of Stardust Cosmetics, LLC.

To my eye (and gut) it appears this crusade has been sparked by the dispute in one form of another between a few Independent Mineral Makeup Companies.  I’ve read through many blog posts about makeup companies that are guilty of ‘repackaging’, many of which seem (again, to my eye) to be blogs created fairly recently.  There seems to be quite the buzz created.   On a side note, repackaging and private label cosmetics are nothing new, companies like Lady Burd have been in business for decades.  This is not some new phenomenon.  What is new is a tighter economy and stiffer competition for online retailers of all products, not just cosmetics.

On one hand, I agree that companies should be HONEST with their customers about their products.  I believe this with every fiber of my being and spirit.  On the other hand, I believe that the majority of the Indie Mineral Makeup Companies out there are doing just that.  I also think it is unacceptable to steal someone else’s ideas (aka intellectual property).  Again, I think most of us are coming up with our own fun and creative ideas that make each company unique.

The women and men that start these companies do this with a DREAM and with a passion for makeup.  I know that is why I did it.  Stardust is my DREAM.   I just ask that before you make judgement of small companies based on  buzz created by this, think about that.  And use your gut.  Contact the owners if you have concerns.  I believe that the interaction with them will help you make the choice that is right for you.

Just my opinion.  Be fully informed.

I did contact the Mineral Makeup Mutiny yesterday morning to inform them that I do formulate my own cosmetics and that I disclose any cosmetics that are not my formulations.  As of yet I have not heard anything back.

Edit:  Kristen emailed me today about the MMM and said that she’s been very busy with it as well as running Aromaleigh.  She asked me to read her post here, so I can be clear of her motives.  I’m very relieved that she has revlealed she started the MMM.  I’ll add that I believe in the spirit of the MMM.  Keeping customers informed is never a bad thing.
